MacDonald is a fan of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Joe co*cker, Janis Joplin, and Aerosmith. Later in life, he also became a fan of Tupac and Eminem.
At 18 years old, MacDonald started getting into hip-hop and rap.
He was penning his own lyrics to instrumentals of his favorite songs—much like every other wannabe rapper was doing back then.
He admitted in an interview that he “didn’t know much about hip-hop,” so he rapped about what he heard. It was all drugs, girls, and guns—none of the things that were a part of MacDonald’s life at that point.
He struggled with alcoholism in his 20s and ended up in rehab in 2017 after an alcohol binge and breakdown. ”During the rehabilitation process, I cleaned myself up,” Tom told Inked Mag. He added: ”I figured out what was important to me and what I wanted to talk about.”
It was after that breakdown—and his long battle with alcohol—that he decided he needed to figure out what was important to him.
He also wanted to find his own voice in the rap industry.
