Appearance[]

The skin that the character is most associated with is from the video game character Fidget of Dust: An Elysian Tail, and not a cat like popularly believed. This skin originally came from The Summer of Arcade promotional skin pack and was exclusive to the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft, but was later included in Skin Pack 4 for the Xbox One edition.

History[]

Etymology[]

The term "Stampy" was used even prior to the creation of the current character. Joseph Garrett first used the term as one of his characters in an animation that he made. This was where he got the "stampylonghead" name. For not directly confirmed reasons (though hinted to be a nod to Joseph's physical appearance, mentioned in the "From Then to Now" 1M sub special), he ended up changing it to "stampylongnose" - the latter term that would later become the name of his main channel and, later, the long form of his Minecraft username.

Stampy's Lovely World[]

Stampy is the first character to appear in the series, Stampy's Lovely World, having created the world itself in his namesake in "Welcome To Stampy's Lovely World". Having created the world himself, Stampy proceeded to build his first and second house, accompanied by his dog Gregory only in "Gregory The Dog" and various helpers in the process. Stampy finally completed the general requirements for the second house in "Animal Farm", following up his decisions with the construction of Stampy's Funland in "A Bad Sign", beginning officially in "The Friendly Creeper" with the Creeper Coaster, and his town in "The Hungry Sheep" with Stampy's Hot Buns. During these beginning stages, he would experience at least 10 total dog deaths and at least 5 special tames, as well as tame a cat, of whom he would call Mittens.

In 2012, he would begin the general basis of his world with the construction of both his second house and his crazy golf course. From 2013, he would continually repeat this building process following the construction of Stampy's Hot Buns, switching between Stampy's Funland and Stampy's Town at a consistent rate, creating at least 270 separate structures and attractions over the course of ten years with his various helpers, counting his second house as a single structure, the number continually rising, though he would take a major year-long hiatus following 2018, 6 years duration of dedicating himself to building his world, then followed by two minor hiatuses. During the beginning stage of this process while building his second house, he would incite the wrath of a rebel named Hit The Target who would attempt to steal Stampy's wolf pack, eventually cooperated by Veeva Dash, with the intention of usurping his world, making attempts time and time again and either failing entirely or being near-successful, evolving his plans to be more foolproof and establish power over Stampy by digging him deeper into conflicting decisions. Eventually, by "Impossible Choice", released August 3rd 2022, Stampy would marginally give into this urge once Barnaby was endangered by poison, deciding to give the deed to Stampy's Funland to the duo rather than the world as a whole in order to save Barnaby from being poisoned to death.

Youtooz[]

Main Article: Youtooz

Stampy has multiple Youtooz products. The original Stampy Cat figurine, as well as a figurine based on Trip To The Moon and a 1ft plushie! The latter two released on 1 May 2024, and were available for the entire month of May 2024.

Trivia[]

  • Throughout the course of the Stampy's Lovely World series, Garrett typically does not use the third-person camera perspectives within Minecraft during recordings, using the first-person camera for a majority of the episodes. Despite this, he is still shown from a third-person camera perspective provided by a camera player within thumbnails where the character is depicted.
  • Stampy loves eating cake. He dreamed of a world of cake in "Lovely Waterfall" and started eating cake for breakfast in the episode Giant Fish Bowl, which is a continued tradition to this day.
  • Stampy has a very specific morning routine when he wakes up, following it nearly perfectly every episode.
    • He starts his routine in the furthest back-right corner of his room, nearby the painting.
    • He walks onto the balcony, waving to his helpers and wishing them a good morning, often starting with William, then Polly and Fizzy, though, if one or more are missing, they are skipped over.
      • In earlier episodes, he instead tells the viewers who he's going to be joined by, listing off gamertags.
    • He goes to eat his breakfast cake, which following "Bye Bear" is situated in the front-right corner of his room.
    • He then tells Barnaby to stand up and heads off to the Love Garden, adding someone on a sign and showing off something they made for him..
    • From then on, he will either grab a new dog to join him, grab Duncan and Mittens together (and proceeding to jump from Mitten's tree into the water), or take Barnaby with him for the rest of the episode.
  • Stampy admits that he is bad at shooting arrows.
  • Dean Dodrill, the creator of Dust: An Elysian Tail, acknowledged Joseph's use of Fidget for the Stampy character after he read Garrett's success story from BBC.[1]
  • He's often seen wearing iron boots, nicknamed to be his "Stampy Style" boots. They're also seen in his Wonderquest and I Wonder design, although with a new bright red vest.
