Both of my kids love Star Wars and LEGO, so it was a perfect combination for us. In fact, my son and daughter have been playing LEGO Marvel and LEGO Star Wars video games on Steam.

I don’t always get a chance to create fun kids snacks, but when I’m struck with inspiration I try to make it happen. I combined my adoration of R2-D2 with my love for Blue Moon ice cream. (Seriously, it is my favorite!) The kids get extremely excited when I take the time to make their food fun and interesting. We made an afternoon of it. They started watching LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales on DVD while I made R2D2 Milkshakes. They couldn’t wait to get their hands on them!

LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales

The LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales DVD comes with a pack ofexclusive trading cards and features five complete episodes of LEGO Star Wars. I love that each episode is around 20 minutes long. It’s the perfect length of time to keep the kids’ attention while I get something done, such as laundry or dinner. They prefer to watch more than one episode in a sitting, but start to get antsy if we don’t take a break.

The fun begins following the victory celebration in the Ewok village on Endor, at the end of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. R2-D2 and C-3PO have gathered to regale Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca and the other Rebels with the tales of their adventures that led to the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. An accidental kidnapping occurs while the droids are reminiscing, and suddenly you’re taken on a new journey that leads to the retelling of the entire Star Wars saga, as told by R2-D2 and C-3PO! It’s hilarious and playful, packed with all your favorite interlocking characters. LEGO® STAR WARS™: DROID TALES is intergalactic thrills for the whole family!

I love R2-D2 and always found him to have quite the sense of humor. I asked the kids (ages 5 years and 3 years) to tell me their favorite parts, but they couldn’t pinpoint any. My daughter talked about R2-D2 and C-3PO telling stories. My son told me one was taken away and had to be rescued. He later was pretending to be Darth Maul and was wielding a lightsaber made from a tower of LEGO Duplos.

Scoop about half of the Blue Moon ice cream into your blender and add milk.

Easy Star Wars R2D2 Milkshake Recipe (5)

Blend until smooth. How long you’ll need to blend will depend on how soft your ice cream is when added. (On my Blendtec blender, I needed to use the milkshake setting twice for the first batch, but only once on the second batch.)

For thicker milkshakes, use less milk. For a thinner milkshake, add more milk.

Pour into a mug, top it off with whipped cream, and add sprinkles!

I made a second batch to use up the rest of the ice cream and to fill up four mason jar mugs.
